“Has she gone nuts?” you may be asking after reading the above title?

“What on earth does forgiveness have to do with creating a successful life and business?”

Well, my friend – it has EVERYTHING to do with it.

Forgiveness is one of the first steps you need to take if you want to change your Money Story (i.e. the beliefs you have about you and money) especially if your current Money Story is holding you back from building the business of your dreams, doing what you love.

That’s why it’s one of the first things I support all of my clients with as they work through my Money Mindset Breakthrough Secrets program.

You see – your level of self-worth; how much you ‘believe’ you can or cannot charge; and the amount of income you make (and keep) can be impacted by what you heard and what you observed, growing up.

It’s important to realise that while your parents’ (or significant others’) words and actions may have been unexceptable, hanging on to anger, sadness, frustration (and a million other emotions) will keep you stuck from stepping out powerfully and building the business and level of income you desire.

Forgiveness is about letting go of what is keeping you stuck.

It’s for YOUR benefit – NOT theirs.

And, it can have an incredible impact for you – just like it has for many of my clients, including:

• Forgiveness for the mother who told her daughter that ‘women don’t need to earn money – they get married, have children and their husband’s take care of them’
• Forgiveness for the father whose spending habits often left his wife without enough food to feed their family
• Forgiveness for the mother who was terrible at managing money and would often take the little money her daughter had saved in her piggy bank to pay for food
• Forgiveness for the parents who would often tell their daughter that “money is the root of all evil” or
• Forgiveness for the grandmother who would often comment “what’s the point of creating wealth? They’ll only take it from you anyway,” to name a few.

By forgiving and letting go of the negative emotions that had been keeping them stuck, my clients were able to change their Money Stories to something that was far more empowering.

So-much-so that they were able to increase their fees; find it much easier to have a sales conversation; and start attracting clients who were willing to pay them what they were worth!

A lesson in forgiveness that was modelled to me (at the age around 7 or 8 years) was by one of my older brothers. He had some friends over and they were listening to a few albums (the old records that you would play on the old-style turntables).

I loved the songs and enjoyed listening to them from my room next door as I drifted off to sleep. So the next day I found the album, took it to my room, and played it on my record player.

My mother and I had to go out for the day and when I returned my brother asked me to come and speak to him. There he was holding his record that had become buckled and unusable due to sitting in the sun – because I had left it there when mum and I had to go out. I was horrified and dreaded to think what punishment awaited me.

So how did this end?

We talked about why I had taken the record, the value of asking permission, the importance of taking care of another person’s property, and the importance of saying sorry.

And, you know what else he did? He gave me another one of his records that he knew I loved.

Imagine that?!

This lesson has stayed with me throughout my life. Powerful!

Forgiveness…  it’s an important, powerful step. Now is a perfect time to let go of what’s holding you back.
