MoneyHandI recently watched an episode on Oprah that really touched my heart. So much so, that I would like to dedicate this issue of Personal Insights to the women living in under-developed countries.

Oprah was interviewing journalist and co-author of Half the Sky – Nicholas Kristof about the poverty and injustice he had witnessed happening to women and girls in under-developed countries.

He shared stories of a woman dying in childbirth after a doctor refused to operate because the family could not afford $10.00; another woman being left on the side of the road to starve after she has been violated by bandits and was no longer considered useful; or of young girls being sold as slaves into the adult industry – and other terrible stories.

Sitting here in the safety and warmth of my office it’s hard to imagine that somewhere in the world, a young girl or woman is experiencing these atrocities.

However, I know that I can make a difference in the lives of these women through donating a small amount of money to help them establish their own means of income. This is one of the most powerful weapons against poverty and injustice. Knowing that in some small way I can help these women is just fantastic and is something that I want to continue doing.

If you feel compelled to help these women and want to find out more, here’s the link:
